Here's the short list
As it does every year, Bon Appétit magazine today released its annual 'Hot 10,' a list of what the magazine's editors consider America's 10 best new restaurants. The winners were culled from a long list of 50 released earlier this month.
Unlike last year, a restaurant in Manhattan made the short list: Jeremiah Stone and Fabian Von Hauske's endlessly inventive Wildair, which Eater's Bill Addison also named to his list of the best new restaurants for 2016. At the top of this year's list is Staplehouse, one of Atlanta's most celebrated new restaurants. Earlier this year Addison wrote: "Ryan Smith's poetic cooking — coupled with the unlimited graciousness of sisters-in law Jen Hidinger and Kara Hidinger — ultimately won locals over." The restaurant recently dropped its tasting menu-only format, but is as popular as ever.
Also on the short list is LA's Baroo, the fermentation-focused spot that has had diners and critics buzzing for nearly a year. Finally, of note: Just yesterday official Clinton campaign dad/VP pick Tim Kaine stopped by Buxton Hall, the restaurant in Asheville that BA lists at number 9. Kaine ate barbecue with locals because someone had to do it and it sure as heck wasn't going to be Hillary. Here's the full list:
1. Staplehouse, Atlanta
2. Bad Saint, Washington, DC
3. Lord Stanley, San Francisco
4. Morcilla, Pittsburgh
5. Baroo, Los Angeles
6. South Philly Barbacoa, Philadelphia
7. Oberlin, Providence, R.I.
8. Wildair, New York City
9. Buxton Hall, Asheville, N.C.
10. N7, New Orleans
