Sasha Obama Is Slinging Seafood In Martha's Vineyard This Summer

Under the watchful eyes of six Secret Service agents

The First Daughters: They’re just like us — except with a Secret Service detail. As is a rite of passage for many American teenagers, President Obama’s youngest daughter Sasha Obama is working a summer job. The Boston Herald reports that 15-year-old Sasha is taking some time off from the White House to man the takeout window at Nancy’s, a seafood restaurant in the ritzy Massachusetts island community of Martha’s Vineyard.

While the Obamas have frequented the restaurant in the past and know the owner, staff members were apparently unaware of the political offspring in their midst. A group of six Secret Service agents reportedly escorts her to and from her job, camping out conspicuously in a Suburban and on a nearby takeout bench while she runs the counter. "She’s been working downstairs at takeout," says a server. "We were wondering why there were six people helping this girl, but then we found out who it was."

According to sources, Sasha has been learning the ropes early in the day during four-hour shifts. During that time she’s working on running the cash register, busing tables, prepping Nancy’s for lunch service, and occasionally delivering drinks to her security guards in her blue T-shirt, khakis, and baseball cap uniform. Alas, the gig is almost up: Sasha is only expected to work at Nancy’s through Saturday, when her parents will arrive at the Vineyard for their annual summer vacation.

While the Obamas aren’t known for working in the restaurant industry, they do like to frequent some of the world’s finer dining establishments and their daughters often tag along. Michelle Obama and eldest daughter Malia hit Community Juice and Food while touring colleges in New York last year, and during a visit to the Big Apple the following July POTUS treated his children to a dinner at high-dollar Italian hot spot Carbone. During an historic visit to Cuba in March, their eldest daughter Malia served as a translator while the family dined at San Cristóbal Paladar in Old Havana.
