Shake Shack's Got Seoul: Photos From Its South Korean Debut

600 people waited in line for burgers and fries this morning

Shake Shack is on a mission to conquer the world with crinkle fries, and today marked its entrance into yet another new market: South Korea. A massive crowd of people lined up in anticipation of the burger chain's Friday morning debut in Seoul's Gangnam district, and former Eater intern Matty Kim was on the ground to capture all the action.

Despite being one of the hottest days of the summer with temperatures hovering around 90 degrees, today saw one of the biggest lines in Shake Shack history: People began lining up at 5 a.m. for the 11 a.m. store opening, and by 10 a.m. the queue had stretched to more than 600 people; the very first person in line drove more than two hours to get there, and many waited two to three hours to be served. That's some serious dedication to burgers and frozen custard.
