Every food vlogger's dream
Food Network looks to be curating its latest crop of food celebrities via the Internet. YouTube star Hannah Hart has inked a deal to film a travel show with the network. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the six-episode series will follow Hart as she dines in different cities across the country.
As THR explains, Hart will have "a limited budget determined by the average price to dine out in each city." (So, a millennial-friendly version of Rachael Ray's erstwhile $40 a Day?)
Like many modern Internet celebrities, Hart got her start on YouTube: Her wildly popular series My Drunk Kitchen has earned her nearly two and a half million subscribers and even led to the publication of an eponymous cookbook. Her move to Food Network is a pretty natural one for both her and the network, which has moved from casting hosts based on professional resumes to plucking them from the web.
Ree Drummond, host of Food Network's The Pioneer Woman, also got her start on the Internet, albeit on a blog about her life on a remote Oklahoma ranch. Other web stars have also parlayed their digital success to television: Harley Morenstein, the host and co-creator of YouTube channel Epic Meal Time, made a deal with FYI Network in July 2014, and Raiza Costa, host of Dulce Delight, translated her YouTube success into a 20-episode show on Brazilian television.
