The First Michelin Stars for Singapore Are Here

Winners include two famed street food hawkers

Michelin has invaded new territory: The restaurant guidebook publisher just unveiled its very first star ratings for the tiny nation of Singapore, as news site Today reports.

Stars were awarded to 29 Singapore restaurants, while 34 received the Bib Gourmand (a less-exclusive distinction that recognizes moderately priced restaurants). No restaurants managed to capture the elusive four-star rating; just one establishment, Joël Robuchon Restaurant (located at luxury hotel Resorts World Sentosa), snagged three stars.

As Traveller24 notes, two of Singapore's most famous street food hawkers, Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle and Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle, each received one star, meaning Michelin-starred meals can now be had for less than $4 USD.

The print version of the guide is on sale now.
